So You Want to be an independent project manager,

Maybe I've always wanted to work for you or you are just looking for a change of occupation. Perhaps newly established outside and see the work freelance as an opportunity to continue his career. Whatever your reasons, there are three points every project manager should consider before participating in independently.

I recently heard someone on talk radio about the three points. Sorry I can not remember his name, but said that, "Every company needs three things, someone to find work, someone to mind the work, and someone to grind the work."

These points were so important I had to write. Take a moment and discuss each of the dots to see how they apply to an independent project manager.

Find Work

Every business needs someone to find work. Actually this function to find work is essentially a dual role and responsibilities in marketing and sales. As the marketing manager, this person is responsible for identifying and describing the services to be provided by an independent professional, or to create any warranty marketing, including brochures, advertisements, technical documents, and leaflets to be used by the sales function to identify and secure new business.

In the sales function, this person will beat the streets looking for the next job. Typically, this includes prospecting, qualifying and sale of services to new and existing customers. The sale of services can be time consuming and, considering the time spent on phone calls, in-person meetings, writing proposals, responding to requests for proposal and contract negotiation. All these activities are resource intensive, unproductive, and expensive if we account, the cost of traveling to customer sites, and lunch.

Care work

Every business needs someone to mind the work. This sounds like the business manager for me. In this role, the administrator of the company is responsible for running the office, answering the phone, managing the contracts, the invoice for their work, manage accounts receivable, pay office expenses, and ensure that the payroll is ready on time. In a small office, the manager business also creates and manages business budgets, sales forecasts, manage contract milestones and delivery.

Grinding Work

Every business needs someone to grind the work. This is the role that really makes the work that is billed to provide the funds needed to operate the business and make the payroll. It is a full time job for contracted services under the plan, under budget, while achieving quality of service expected by the customer.

A separate project Manager is a program of a person. Independent journalist should fulfill three functions to successfully execute a one-person business. Project manager somehow independent has to balance the needs and mind to find work while you still have time to grind out the work. The freelance journalist focus on the implementation of projects, but does not make the time to find the next contract soon out of business. Also, the freelance journalist who finds a job and focuses on the delivery without remembering the bill too soon out of business.

In short, you can be a great project manager, but requires freelance sales and business skills to operate the business. Be sure to cover their bases before embarking on his new career.
