Marketing Audit Checklist

Once again, thanks to consulting firms, business gurus, experts or what is called today my death have been reported. And having been with us from the beginning when the man engaged the man, I can tell, I am alive and for some even thriving.

In a recent article in the Wall Street Journal online strategy as many know, was pronounced dead by a top consulting firm known for its expertise guru business. Of course you do not have billions of dollars in revenue, but perhaps the recent decline in revenue that is why we demand, and the promotion of my death.

Part the reason for these premature announcements of my death because all these so-called consulting leading experts have failed to understand how I was born. My lineage came of a general who wanted to deceive their enemies. In the 21st world business experts who can help with this translation means any business that wants to deceive their competitors. It probably also needs to deceive the definition for "those who can not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." (Source: George Santayana)

The word has Latin origin meaning fool "Remove." And business is not one of the goals is to take their competitors to their customers, their benefits, their ideas and their market share? I still enjoy educating people after all these thousands of years.

When those who profess to be experts do not understand the basis of their experience, it makes no sense why they are not sure the desired results? So what do they do? Admit your mistakes or blame someone else as in this case myself, the strategy?

As I continued reading business magazines, books and even blogs (yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks) seems to be the inability to execute the strategy has been the main reason for the call for my death. The execution, according to everything I have read specific for strategic planning, not by the people, rewards, processes, or structure. Recommend to the not so well informed to read most 5 point star Jay Galbraith Model-specific development of the organization to ensure the wise words of Mr. Santayana.

One of the most recent studies Digineer (a company U.S. based in Minnesota) led by Pat Salaski validates my previous statements regarding the reasons for failed execution. In this research, the fault is much more in people than in the current strategy of these statistics:

  • 69% lack of confidence of the leaders
  • Habits 66% past
  • 64% of business culture
  • 52% top management
  • 50% CEO / President
  • 46% middle management

These data suggest a multidimensional approach is necessary to ensure flawless execution. With only focuses on one area without understanding their impact and adaptation to other areas is honestly rather illogical and for those who prefer the words of common sense just dumb. However, for consultants expensive and the top, make more money is asked again and again instead of investing the time to really understand the obstacles that hinder the desired result happen.

A simple observation that have been made through the eons of time is if individuals (people) can not achieve their personal goals how can address an organization hope to secure the objectives of the organization?

When you boil it all down, the strategy (That's me) is to think with purpose if you are an owner of Army General, CEO of small business, sales manager or sales professional independent. However, to succeed in achieving the desired future results to be short or long term requires an investment in programming time to review the current written plans and be flexible for the necessary course corrections.

So if you hear of my death, then all I can suggest is the person is probably one of the high prices the major consulting firms to make that statement really is someone who never understood me, to get started and unfortunately has claimed thousands of dollars to trusted clients. Therefore, the strategy I am alive and thriving especially for those organizations that have jumped ahead of the flow as Ford Motors, and Apple to name just two.
