PC or laptop what should I get?

At the moment I have a very old team certainly needs replacing, but lack of funds is a definite theme. I am not computer literate at all and only long enough to find my way around my modest needs is to write and print personal and business letters, email, using ebay, online chat and generally surf the Internet. Do not download music or games and I do not buy anything with the extras that I never I will use. Can anyone advise what is available in the United Kingdom to adequately meet my needs and about how I look to pay. Perhaps there is a particular brand of desktop or laptop on the market that the fair value of money for someone like me. I know you can shop around myself but I have no idea what to look for and all the technical terms and jargon is to gobble do Gooch for me :-( I really would be grateful for any help.

Hello, (ANS) As a team, very experienced person (ex IT professional with an MCSE level training) I advise you to take a look at the Dell website. Why? I've been dealing with on and off DELL machines for many years for friends, family and colleagues, that offer excellent value for money and the time 2008 were current laptop and several new desktop systems in what is called "Entry level", ie someone like you (in terms of budget) and intelligent computing needs. ** DELL systems are making some nice entry level at 250 pounds to 350 pounds price range that meet their needs quite well. ** Try to buy a machine with Windows XP Home or XP Pro instead of Windows Vista. Vista is great and this means it takes a lot of machines to drive resources. XP uses less and is a very stable version of windows in my opinion. It is also likely that Vista is gone in less than 12 months and soon may be replaced by Windows 7 is, the next version of Windows client. ** Windows XP offers far fewer compatibility issues with programs, contrast with Vista. XP can be very tight and tuned for improved performance in Vista. XP has a much larger variety of programs written to run on it, and more device drivers as well. XP has a seven year long history unlike Vista, which has only about 12 months. SEE:-http: / / www1.euro.dell.com/content/default.aspx?
